I finally watched the Yamabuki musical last night (now I only have summer Hyoutei left~). 2nd-cast's first musical...and I can kind of see why no one liked them at first.
I also think it wasn't really their fault. Yamabuki was just kind of a crappy musical in general.
The songs weren't really all that catchy (I like "Good Combination," but...Golden Pair), and, well...I dunno. It just wasn't that impressive.
But at the same time, I think most of the Seigaku cast did a pretty good job with their individual characters.
Thoughts on Yamabuki:
Akutsu -- I don't mind Akutsu in the series, but here he was just annoying. Really, really annoying.
Dan Taichi -- I LOVE THIS KID. That is all. ♥
Sengoku -- Haha, Wada. ♥ Was it just me, or was he trying to make Sengoku seem as gay as possible?
And Seigaku~ (I like how I use the characters' names for Yamabuki, and the actors for Seigaku :D)
Endou -- Nope, still can't sing. At all. I love Endou. ♥
Shirota -- I felt sorry for Shirota, having to be all stoic and not-moving. You just know he wanted to dance around with everyone else.
Kaji -- KAJI'S MOMO IS ♥. Seriously. Other than "Good Combination," his song he sings at the beginning of his match with Tezuka was definitely my favorite. He was bouncy and crazy and adorable. ♥
Adachi -- WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS KID?! I had a minor freakout when it looked like they were going to let him sing "Juuden Kanryou," but other than that -- he was fine in this musical! I mean, he was no Nagayan, or Setomaru, but he was at least trying to be happy and bouncy and energetic. (Although, no matter how much he tries, his voice still sounds like he's bored out of his mind~) And he touched Zukki!! In the other 2nd-cast musicals I've seen, it's like he's avoiding Zukki like the plague. My current theory is that someone (probably Shirota or Araki) told him Zukki had cooties. And then Nakamura finally gave in and told him the truth sometime before the movie was filmed, hence the touching in that.
Zukki -- ♥♥♥♥ It would be easy to blame this on a sort of immunity afforded to Oishi's actors, but I just love Zukki, and his Oishi. He's earnest and concerned and it amused me that even in the backstage, when they're walking off the stage after the performance, he wasn't being his spazzy Zukki self (unlike Shirota, who couldn't resist doubling back to the camera), he was still calm and Oishi-esque. ♥ Also, I don't care what anyone says, he is NOT the worst singer in that cast. He sings better than Adachi, and better than Endou. During a couple of the group songs, though, he sang right before Shirota, so it kinda made him look bad in comparison, but that's not his fault. Zukki sings earnestly, too, and he just seems to be trying so hard, and mean people need to leave him alone about his voice. :( *hugs Zukki* (...As a side note, I still find it hard to believe that he's 2 years older than me.)
And about the Golden Pair in general...WHY DID THEY KEEP MOVING THE CAMERA OFF OF THEM? They did it at least twice, once when Adachi tapped Zukki on the shoulder, and once when Zukki leaned over to say something to Adachi. Also...they mysteriously disappeared after their match. They showed up again a little ways into the Momo-Sengoku match. What in the world were they doing...?
In other news, I've been wanting to rant lately, about things that I really have no right to rant about. Ah well.

Date: 2007-01-24 04:46 am (UTC)I swear, Kaede, I'm loving you more and more and more and more. I'm so happy somebody's sharing my exact same views of BukiMyu. ♥ (Except for the bit about Kaji, but I'm probably biased because I see way too many ZuKaji fics AHAHAHAHA.)
Amen on the paragraph about Zukki. Seriously. And Adachin, too. I don't know why I started out hating them so much, because other than I was terribly missing 1stCast and hated the entire 2ndCast for replacing them, I really can't think of any other reason.

Date: 2007-01-24 05:04 am (UTC)Sorry, I'm saving myself for SetomaruAh, I think there may be a few legal and...biological? restrictions against that... ♥Aww, poor Kaji~ He can't help what people write about him. And I can't help but love Kaji, possibly because sometimes he kind of reminds me of one of my older brothers. ♥ Plus, he does make a good Momo~~
Yeah, I can understand resenting them just because they were the 2nd cast. But really, TeniMyu opened up so many opportunities for the 1st cast, I think, and it would have been unfair to keep them in the musicals and not let them take advantage of those opportunities. Even if it was really really sad that they had to go. :(

Date: 2007-01-24 06:43 am (UTC)Yup, I can see why I don't like Kaji. XDDDD (I even bought Air Gear yesterday just so that I can make fun of Onigiri, LOL. I'm soooooo mean.) He WAS a good Momo, though, but MoriEiji pwns ALL at Momo-ness.
I have yet to see anybody not liking 3rdCast (with the exception of

-- Yes, exactly. *pnish*'s popularity rose even higher (not like they weren't popular already to begin with) because of Tuti's and Eiji's involvement in TeniMyu. Nagayan himself says that it was because he played Kikumaru that doors just kept opening up for him and he got to where he is now. TeniMyu wasn't a stepping stone, but it is definitely, DEFINITELY helping them.

-- I'm getting fic ideas.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
And mean people DO need to stop bugging Zukki about his voice. I know that Zukki also pokes fun at himself and his singing, BUT. I didn't see anyone else try as hard as he did. He really did his best, and in both Hyoutei myus you can tell that he truly wanted to improve on it.
Or maybe, like you, I love Oishi too much and thus can turn a blind eye -- or in this case, ear. No, that's not it. I appreciate Zukki for his earnestness and enthusiasm in playing his role and taking on the challenges that came with it.
... This post is going into my memories. This is the first time I've had a decent 2ndCast conversation with anyone. XD

Date: 2007-01-24 07:17 am (UTC)Glad to be of help :D I was seriously trying to figure out what in the world could have caused them to disappear like that. They kind of sneak back around the bleachers-thing, and Adachi sits on the bench next to Aiba and Zukki stands next to him, like they were there the whole time.
Making fun of your own singing isn't the same as other people making fun of it. And he just tries so hard. :( I rewatched his little solo part in winter Hyoutei before watching Yamabuki, and...that, if nothing else, would have made me love Zukki. He really did want, so badly, to do well. Gah, if everyone didn't tell him he was awesome after that, they're the ones who should get made fun of.
♥ This is the first time I've really talked about the 2nd cast too, at least online. And really, I love that cast. 1st-cast will forever and always remain my favorite
I think, but 2nd cast was special too, in their own way. ♥ And 3rd-cast...I still haven't paid that much attention to in general, because when I watch RokkakuMyu all I see is Setomaru. :Dno subject
Date: 2007-01-24 08:04 am (UTC)And when I watch Rokka, I can at least see more than Setomaru. There's the matter of Takki and all the IreiAi...
Oh, someone just YM-ed me and now I'm wondering if anyone other than Nikki has written TakkiSeto fics yet...

Date: 2007-01-24 07:57 pm (UTC)... Yamabukimyu is totally my favourite. *_________*
... gotta disagree with you about Akutsu - I think JURI plays him fantastically.
... clearly someone forgot to tell Wada that Sengoku is supposed to be straight. Because I definitely don't get a particularly gay vibe off Wada when he's offstage, so he must have been playing it that way. WTF.
... YAY FOR KAJI LOVE. ♥

Date: 2007-01-27 08:44 pm (UTC)YamabukiMyu is your favorite? Really? How come? Do you just like Yamabuki? *curious*
I think it was the cigarette that really bothered me, actually. It was like he had trouble talking around it. Plus...it's been awhile since I've seen that part of the series, and I don't think I liked Akutsu much at first anyway. After Ryoma beats him, he's fine.
Haha, that's what I was thinking! Sengoku is one of the very few characters who ever talks about liking girls, and here Wada's apparently assuming he's as gay as everyone else in the show. And you're right, Wada doesn't act like that on his own, so it must have been intentional. Silly Wada.
I've recently been thinking that Kaji needs more love. He's so cute, and weird. ♥
