I finally watched the Yamabuki musical last night (now I only have summer Hyoutei left~). 2nd-cast's first musical...and I can kind of see why no one liked them at first.
I also think it wasn't really their fault. Yamabuki was just kind of a crappy musical in general.
The songs weren't really all that catchy (I like "Good Combination," but...Golden Pair), and, well...I dunno. It just wasn't that impressive.
But at the same time, I think most of the Seigaku cast did a pretty good job with their individual characters.
Thoughts on Yamabuki:
Akutsu -- I don't mind Akutsu in the series, but here he was just annoying. Really, really annoying.
Dan Taichi -- I LOVE THIS KID. That is all. ♥
Sengoku -- Haha, Wada. ♥ Was it just me, or was he trying to make Sengoku seem as gay as possible?
And Seigaku~ (I like how I use the characters' names for Yamabuki, and the actors for Seigaku :D)
Endou -- Nope, still can't sing. At all. I love Endou. ♥
Shirota -- I felt sorry for Shirota, having to be all stoic and not-moving. You just know he wanted to dance around with everyone else.
Kaji -- KAJI'S MOMO IS ♥. Seriously. Other than "Good Combination," his song he sings at the beginning of his match with Tezuka was definitely my favorite. He was bouncy and crazy and adorable. ♥
Adachi -- WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS KID?! I had a minor freakout when it looked like they were going to let him sing "Juuden Kanryou," but other than that -- he was fine in this musical! I mean, he was no Nagayan, or Setomaru, but he was at least trying to be happy and bouncy and energetic. (Although, no matter how much he tries, his voice still sounds like he's bored out of his mind~) And he touched Zukki!! In the other 2nd-cast musicals I've seen, it's like he's avoiding Zukki like the plague. My current theory is that someone (probably Shirota or Araki) told him Zukki had cooties. And then Nakamura finally gave in and told him the truth sometime before the movie was filmed, hence the touching in that.
Zukki -- ♥♥♥♥ It would be easy to blame this on a sort of immunity afforded to Oishi's actors, but I just love Zukki, and his Oishi. He's earnest and concerned and it amused me that even in the backstage, when they're walking off the stage after the performance, he wasn't being his spazzy Zukki self (unlike Shirota, who couldn't resist doubling back to the camera), he was still calm and Oishi-esque. ♥ Also, I don't care what anyone says, he is NOT the worst singer in that cast. He sings better than Adachi, and better than Endou. During a couple of the group songs, though, he sang right before Shirota, so it kinda made him look bad in comparison, but that's not his fault. Zukki sings earnestly, too, and he just seems to be trying so hard, and mean people need to leave him alone about his voice. :( *hugs Zukki* (...As a side note, I still find it hard to believe that he's 2 years older than me.)
And about the Golden Pair in general...WHY DID THEY KEEP MOVING THE CAMERA OFF OF THEM? They did it at least twice, once when Adachi tapped Zukki on the shoulder, and once when Zukki leaned over to say something to Adachi. Also...they mysteriously disappeared after their match. They showed up again a little ways into the Momo-Sengoku match. What in the world were they doing...?
In other news, I've been wanting to rant lately, about things that I really have no right to rant about. Ah well.
